After three years with Good Morning America, anchor Chris Cuomo is leaving the nation’s second top-rated morning program.
Cuomo has been promoted to co-anchor of 20/20, where he will share the anchor desk on breaking news stories with correspondent Elizabeth Vargas, ABC said
Thursday. Friday will be the last day at GMA for Chris, as well departing lead
anchor Diane Sawyer — who has been replaced by political analyst George
Stephanopolus as she prepares to take over the network’s nightly news staple,
World News Tonight.
“It is a dream job for a journalist like me, but it was also a very difficult
decision, because I am leaving a special place and crew and all of you and youare all part of my family. The good news is you never really leave family,”
Chris said during this morning’s show.

Already, we knew that George Stephanopoulos was in line to succeed Diane Sawyer,whose last day on “G.M.A.” is Friday. Now we know that another new person will be joining Mr. Stephanopoulos on the couch.
Chris Cuomo, the morning show’s news reader, is exiting the show. He will be
replaced by JuJu Chang, an ABC News correspondent, according to a person
familiar with the plans.
The New York Post first reported the change Tuesday afternoon.
ABC is said to be in negotiations with Mr. Cuomo about a new position. He could become the co-anchor of the Friday night newsmagazine “20/20.” The program is currently anchored by Elizabeth Vargas. If he stays at ABC, Mr. Cuomo, the son
of Mario Cuomo, the former governor of New York, would also flex his reporting muscles more often.
Over the weekend, ABC was forced to deny an online report that Mr. Cuomo had tendered his resignation.
On Twitter, where he has almost a million followers, Mr. Cuomo wrote Mondaymorning, “Yes, change is coming. I invite it, honestly. All is good. Will tell more soon.”
